New technology holds promise for patients with neurodegeneration

If you are concerned about memory loss, cognitive decline or notice changes in motor skills in yourself or a loved one, a new brain MRI exam may offer answers.

A brain MRI exam along with 3D volume software, such as NeuroQuant®, give our specialized radiologists quantitative measurements of various structures within your brain. Those measurements are compared with a database of healthy individuals of the same age and gender. This gives your provider more information to help diagnose neurological conditions and neurodegenerative diseases such as:

  • Alzheimer’s disease
  • Dementia
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Epilepsy
  • Traumatic brain injury

An early diagnosis may help guide better treatment planning and potentially result in better long-term outcomes.

How Does NeuroQuant Work?

A NeuroQuant exam consists of having a Brain MRI scan. The technologist performing the scan sends the data to a secure server where the NeuroQuant software automatically identifies and segments multiple brain structures.

The software then measures the volumes of the structures and compares the information to a normative database adjusted for age, gender and cranial volume.

The NeuroQuant software generates unique reports providing greater visual and quantitative information for the radiologist reading your MRI scan and your provider evaluating treatment options.

What Does This Mean for Me?

Talk to your doctor. A brain MRI exam is a recognized test for diagnosing certain neurological conditions. The additional information provided by brain volume imaging software, like NeuroQuant, helps show quantitatively how your brain volumes measure up against other healthy individuals of your age and can be very useful in guiding treatment options. At CDI, the NeuroQuant measurement information is at no additional charge to our patients beyond the cost of the brain MRI.

Ask your doctor about a brain MRI with volume imaging to see if it may be an appropriate next step in your care.
