The Image Gently Pledge

Radiation exposure is a concern in both adults and children. The risk for developing a radiation-related cancer can be of greater concern for a young child because:

  • Children are considerably more sensitive to radiation than adults,
  • Children have a longer life expectancy than adults, resulting in a larger window of opportunity for experiencing radiation damage, and
  • Children may receive a higher radiation dose than necessary if CT settings are not adjusted for their smaller body size.

We have taken the ACR's Image Gently Pledge, which requires providers use special protocols when imaging children so that a typical radiation dose delivered to a child is significantly less that that delivered to an adult undergoing the same CT procedure. Find providers who have taken the Image Gently Pledge.
